Did you know Google’s Creators Have Just Joined the Centibillionaire Club

About a hundred years ago, the fact that John D. Rockefeller was worth a whole billion dollars seemed absolutely fantastical to the vast majority of people living in the world because of the fact that this is the sort of thing that could potentially end up allowing him to experience a level of luxury that had perhaps never been seen before. However, in this modern day and age there are nearly 3,000 billionaires in the world, but that has only meant that an even more exclusive club has arisen: that of centibillionaires.

A centibillionaire is basically someone whose net worth exceeds 100 billion US dollars. Bill Gates was worth over a hundred billion during the dot com bubble of the late 90s, but when the bubble burst his wealth shrunk to about half of that where it remained for a couple of decades. Larry Page and Sergey Bring, the founders of Google and majority share owners in its parent company Alphabet Incorporated, have now joined the ranks of six other individuals who are all worth over a hundred billion dollars.

Interestingly, 6 out of the 8 people that can claim the title of centibillionaire are all tech entrepreneurs, namely Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos, Mark Zuckerberg, Elon Musk and now Larry Page and Sergey Brin. The only two people on the list who are not directly involved in the tech industry are Warren Buffett, who amassed his wealth through the holding company Berkshire Hathaway which manages all of his numerous investments, and Bernard Arnault who got his wealth through his luxury goods brand Louis Vuitton.

Both founders of Google added over 20 billion to their wealth over the past year, which just goes to show how much tech companies have benefited from the lockdowns that ensued after the covid-19 pandemic started to become a serious burden on the world.
