Twitter Announces 'Issues Ads' Policy to Stop Manipulation by Politically-Motivated Groups Following  Facebook’s lead , Twitter will begin labeling  in-stream ads from political candidates  and those which “advocate for legislative issues of national importance”, in order to provide more transparency over politically-motivated advertising, and reduce issue manipulation. As you can see here, ads that fall into these categories will now have a specific (issue) label attached. Those under the first category – provided by political candidates – will have an additional ‘Paid for by’ label beneath the tweet. Additional information will also be added into Twitter’s recently launched  Ad Transparency Center , enabling users to get more context on each. New Test Shows Re-Tweeting Your Own Tweets Can Boost Engagement Given  Twitter’s algorithm  favors engagement, including re-tweets, can re-tweeting your own tweets have a beneficial impact? According to a new report from  Buffer , it definitely can – seeking to get a better understanding of the practice, Buffer set about re-tweeting some of their best performing tweets, in terms of engagement, and tracked the results. As explained by  Buffer : “ On average, our retweeted tweets received 122% more impressions, 87% more engagements, and 90% more link clicks.  The three tweets with video also had an average boost of video views by 92%.” It’s worth noting that Buffer didn’t re-tweet  all  of their tweets, just the best performers – Buffer recommends using your  Twitter Analytics  to find your top tweets. The tweets listed on the main Analytics screen are, by default, ordered in descending order based on impressions, but Buffer recommends using ‘Engagement rate’ as a l

Google Search Console Made a Change to Data Calculations as of August 19

Image
Google Search Console Made a Change to Data Calculations as of August 19 Google recently informed site owners that changes were made to the way Search Console tracks certain sets of query data. In a series of  tweets , Google explains the details behind the changes that were made on August 19. “We recently (Aug 19) made some changes in the way Search Analytics / Search Performance calculates total numbers for its graph… We noticed some confusion, and wanted to clarify the change.” The changes specifically affect the way Search Analytics/Search Performance calculates totals for queries that do not match a piece of text. Prior to August 19, totals for “query not containing” data included the sum of queries that weren’t tracked in Search Console. Google Search Console does not track queries that are made a very small number of times, or queries that contain personal or sensitive information. Although those queries are not tracked, they were still represented in the tota

Facebook Publishes New Report on How to Maximize Video Ad Performance

Image
Facebook Publishes New Report on How to Maximize Video Ad Performance As you’ve no doubt read over and over, video is the best performing content option on every social platform, which is particularly relevant in the case of Facebook. Research shows that videos are the Facebook format  most likely to reach and engage audiences , and with Facebook continually reducing organic reach through its  News Feed algorithm updates , and sucking away referral traffic for Pages, an increasing number of businesses are turning to video on the platform to reduce their losses. That, of course, makes logical sense - and Facebook now even  provides tools  to make it easier to create video from image and text assets to help more businesses do so. But in order to maximize the performance of your video content, you also need to know which types of videos generate the best response, and where you should use each to best connect with your audiences. With the  expansion of Facebook Watch  to al
