THE GROWING IMPACT OF SOCIAL MEDIA ON SPORTS

THE GROWING IMPACT OF SOCIAL MEDIA ON SPORTS

How Sports Teams Use Social Media

How often do you check social media platforms when you’re watching a sports game?

    I’m guessing, very often.

Teams create hype even before the game starts with Instagram posts with details about the game.

During the game, teams will often post live videos on their Instagram or Twitter feeds.

Or, after the game, there’s always a photo or a compilation video of game highlights.

It’s hard to ignore when you have all these different photos and videos to view as you’re watching a sports game.

Have you ever wondered why you watch these videos or how it adds value to your game-watching experience? Do you think pre-match reports might influence the way punters wager on online Bettings sites

In this short post, I’ll tell you about the different social media strategies sports teams use on you.

Sports Teams Know How and What Platforms to Use

When fans watch a sports game at the venue, marketers engage them with visuals on the screens. To make it personable, they put screenshots of audience members and try to promote audience-generated media.

This strategy creates hype and brings the fans together in a unique experience.

Social media marketers use the same guidance that in-venue marketers use. They need to adjust what media they post on which platforms to make the most captivating content to the viewer.

For example, it’s better to put behind-the-scene photos such as warm-up or side-line scenes from the game on Instagram. It gives the fans an inside look to their favorite teams or players.

Sports Teams Create Hype and Excitement

Before the game even starts, marketers need to create hype and excitement among the fans.
If it’s a playoff game the anticipation needs to build so fans will continue to follow the “road to the playoffs”.

Social media marketers create this excitement with new hashtags for people to follow and even starting a fan competition in the days leading up to the event.

Sports Teams Set Goals on and off the Pitch

A sports team’s social media strategy depends on its goal.

A sports team’s goal could be anything ranging from increasing reach and engagement to creating brand awareness.

For example, many teams that want to increase reach and engagement encourage fans to post their own photos with a certain hashtag or tag the team in their pictures.

    Sports Teams Market Their Players

Unlike other industries trying to market their brand, sports teams have their own built-in celebrity endorsers: their team players.

Sports teams use their star players as part of their social media campaigns since fans already know who they are. It also gives the fans a way to link with their favorite players.

Sports marketers don’t just highlight the player - although it is important to give them credit - they tie to back to the team’s main Instagram or Facebook page.

    Sports Teams Review their Plays
Just like coaches reviews previous plays and games for improvement so do social media marketers.

Luckily, social media platforms such as Facebook have tools that marketers use to measure their reach, engagement, fan growth, and more.

Marketers access these metrics to analyze what area is lacking and what’s working. They can make adjustments accordingly to reach more fans and attract new ones.
