Your How-To Manual for Stories from Instagram and Snapchat (infographic)

The recent launch of Instagram stories gives users a space where they can share posts at higher frequency. With this new feature being introduced in the town, users will be able to share all the moments of their day in the slideshow format. The feature, named “Stories” lets users share their entire moment of the day, not just the ones they want to keep in their profile. You will be quite surprised to hear that a similar feature exists elsewhere, i.e on the other platform named Snapchat. However, the conclusion made by marketers has already unveiled that Instagram stories are a better alternative to Snapchat stories. Instagram stories are therefore counted to be a genuine improvement over its antecedent.

Let’s dig deep to see how Instagram and Snapchat STORIES work

Dominated by youngsters, Snapchat is and will always be a platform with a coveted demographic. On the other hand, Instagram is far more diverse when it comes to the age of its users. Treating Instagram stories similar to Snapchat is meant to be more gritty and raw. To fully harness the power of this feature, businesses should invest into stories that enhance their brand. Businesses can gain more out of this bold move by encouraging users to create and share more content on the platform.

How Instagram Stories work?

Stories are rolling out over the next few weeks with some users getting access to the feature right now and the others waiting little longer to get up and running. Instagram stories offer a more “real life” feel. These stories are in a secondary feed that is available only for 24 hours from the time of posting. You will see stories from people you follow in a bar at the top of your feed. While viewing a story, you can tap to go back and forward or swipe to jump to another person’s story. All Instagram stories can be shared from your favorite friend to your most popular accounts. While there is something new, their profile photo will have a colorful ring around it.

Stories do not have any likes or public comments, unlike regular posts.

How Snapchat Stories work?

Using stories in Snapchat is fairly simple. When you add snaps to your story, your friends will be able to view that snap as many times as they wish before 24 hours. All you need to do is tapping the “+” icon at the bottom of screen. Unlike receiving random snaps, Snapchat stories allow you to document a whole day and tell your stories through a series of photos and videos that followers can view back to back. It also uses a swipe animation to separate one user story from the next.

How Instagram and Snapchat stories work for businesses?

In an effort to allow users share more and more content, Instagram stories create string of images and videos that can be uploaded to a feed which is different from the traditional Instagram feed.

 • Using this feature for a brand counts to be a great way to take followers behind the scenes and give them sneak peeks of what is to come. These sneak peeks are not only tool for consumer engagement, but also create a buzz for your campaign.

• Instagram stories is an awesome tool that reminds your audience that you have something going on and they have a huge opportunity to get there. Example- exciting offers or deals running on the website

• Gets you added followers for an exclusive content

• Instagram stories coupled with a polished content can open door for businesses to connect and build more trust with their audience and drive more engagement.

Instagram’s free app is an excellent tool to showcase products and make customers feel included into “behind the scenes” aspects of your business. With the launch of “Stories” Instagram tapped into the viewing behavior of younger audience. For the older audience, Instagram Stories allow them to stay on the platform they have started to migrate to rather than learning an entirely new platform.

Snapchat Stories

If you are looking to connect with your community in an innovative way, without spending on the advertising budget, Snapchat stories are an ultimate way. These stories have an ability to go viral as friends will be eager to share whatever they think is entertaining. As a business, one can make the best out of Snapchat stories by creating engaging content to captivate your audience.

Snapchat Stories or Instagram Stories? Which one is the best for your business?

The result boils down to the number of followers on both platforms. It is quite impossible to have equal number of followers on both the platforms as the number of followers/fans would drastically be different on Facebook, Pinterest, Snapchat, Instagram and so on. The audience for each platform would certainly be different and their expectations too.

With the roll out of Instagram stories, the user journey is simply flawless. Everything is in a single place. Your audience basically never has to leave the app. With just a single story, you could just share so many different things to the user. Isn’t it better? It could even get better with the option of inserting links to the stories. Stories by Instagram also give the opportunity to create lighhearted snapchat like content without being under the stress of launching a new channel. It also allows for increased discoverability by featuring geotags and hashtags. This, in turn, makes it easy for the targeted customers to find you.

Snapchat is a cool option for small businesses because it offers the ability to create geofilters that can feature your logo. Businesses can use this feature to themselves to promote an event, offer or brand to their followers. There are some other useful features that can be used for more creativity like enhancing videos like a time, changing playback speed, adding emojis and so on.

To avoid the confusion, you can simply start with Snapchat. Save each post to “my memories” and save them to the camera roll and then upload them through Instagram stories. This way you will get same story on each platform. You can even compare the number of views you are getting, ease of use, audience engagement and check out what’s worth your time.
